How many arcade racers for PC that were released in the recent years do you know? Well there’s Need For Speed with it’s almost yearly releases and perhaps some indie game. Most of the arcade racers are now console exclusives. But that’s it. Gas Guzzlers Extreme is hoping to fill that gap with mechanics from games as Twisted Metal and Interstate ’76 along with Mario Cart type of rivalry.
Gass Guzzlers kicks the player into action without any warning. Even the first races is with live ammo and aggressive opponents. Well you have the option at the profile creation to choose the dificulty and the option of arcade mode. Which is pretty pointless, because even with it turned off the cars handle like arcade.
As you progress through the game the cars get faster, weapons get more aggressive and so do the opponents. The cars here sort of fictional, but you have no doubt what the car is supposed to be. BMW, Ford, Chevrolet, and so on. Of course no names are named and the similarity is pure coincidence.
After a couple of races it gets a bit boring. Race types are the same through out the entire game. Tracks change a bit, but that’s it. Of course the more powerful cars try to get your attention back to the road but it’s not really helping. Even changing the difficulty level just gets your attention back for a couple of races and then you just end in front of everyone with such a big gap, that you can’t use the weapons, since there is no target.
